As we move into Tier 3 in West Yorkshire, I have sought clarification from the Environmental Health Officer at Bradford Council on restrictions affecting music teaching and performance. They have advised:
"In regard to music teaching of adults (18+)- under ‘The health protection (coronavirus, Restrictions) (All tiers) (England) Regulations 2020’ these lessons are not permitted due to the following:
PART 1 Restrictions on gatherings
Participation in gatherings in private dwellings and other indoor spaces
1.—(1) No person may participate in a gathering in the Tier 3 area which—
(a)consists of two or more people, and
(b)takes place in a private dwelling or in any indoor space.
However, music lessons in regards to children (under 18’s) are permitted to take place due to the following section of the above regulations:
Exception 18: children
(25) Exception 18 is that the gathering is reasonably necessary—
(e) for the purposes of—
(ii) supervised activities for children or other persons who were under the age of 18 on 31st August 2020;
If you choose to conduct children’s lessons, this must be done in a Covid secure manner with the completion of a Covid-19 Risk Assessment."
Since September at Bingley Music School we have a risk assessment in place, clear guidelines and social distancing, allowing for piano students to use a separate keyboard and 3m distance for singers with use of shield. Anyone 12years or over are required to wear face shield or mask. I am pleased to advise that Face to Face Lessons for under 18s are therefore resuming at Bingley Music School in the New Year, commencing 4th January 2021, under the same guidelines and risk assessment as previously put in place.
Lessons for over 18s will continue online using the Zoom platform.
See you in the New Year!
